What cutters can I use?

Nomad 883 Pro

The Nomad 883 Pro uses a spindle with an ER-11 collet system. The machines ship with a 1/8″ collet and nut like the one shown in the image below.

  1. 1/8″ Collet
  2. Collet Nut
  3. 1/8″ Cutter

The 1/8″ collet allows you to use any cutter that has a 1/8″ shank. You can see a variety of these cutters on our cutters page by looking at the #100 series:  http://shop.carbide3d.com/collections/cutters

Because the spindle uses the ER-11 collet system, you can purchase another collet that will allow you to use cutters with 1/4″ shank:  http://shop.carbide3d.com/products/25-er-11-collet-and-nut for use in appropriate materials.

Shapeoko 3

The Shapeoko 3 by default uses a trim router — the stock 69mm mount fits the Dewalt DWP611 (or D26200) trim router, and an adapter which reduces this to 65mm which fits the Makita RT0701 (or RT0700) is included in current machines. These trim routers include a 1/4″ collet which allows you to use any cutter with a 1/4″ shank.

You can see a variety of these cutters on our cutters page by looking at the #200 series:  http://shop.carbide3d.com/collections/cutters

If you are interested in using cutters with 1/8″ shank, we also sell a precision 1/8″ collet for the DWP-611:  http://shop.carbide3d.com/products/precision-collet-and-nut-for-dewalt-dwp611

As well as a reducing collet which may be used in a Makita: https://shop.carbide3d.com/products/makita-reducing-collet

There are other collet options available from third parties.

P.S. None of our machines use a proprietary system for cutters. That means that any cutter, from any vendor will work. Just make sure you get the correct shank size for your machine!
